Recently you’ve sent me many requests to review the best heat protectant sprays for hair. I’m really happy to see that more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of thermal hair protection. It’s hard to reply to every question separately so I think writing a post is a better idea. I’ve already tried many different products and know which one is the best! Enjoy reading. 🙂
When do I use my heat protection spray?
To me a heat protectant is an additional product and I don’t use it every day. I usually reach for it when I plan on curling or flat-ironing the hair, but also when I go on holidays because it also protects against the sunlight (not all of the protectants have such properties, though). Naturally, it’s also good to use it before blow-drying. My highly-porous hair air-dries quickly so I hardly ever use the dryer.
The name of the best heat protection spray is…
Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray
I hardly ever reach for any other protectants since I started using Nanoil. It’s an ideal that I’d been looking for really long! Ensuring protection against extreme temperatures of up to 430℉/220℃ is the greatest thing about it. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray is good before curling and flat-ironing. It has an extra effect, smoothing the lengths and slightly lifting the roots of hair.
Hair stops looking dull and gets glossy. It is also one of the products shielding the hair against the harmful sunlight. I always keep it in my beach bag, next to 50 SPF cream. If you’ve got colored hair, then go for it – the spray stops the color from fading. The INCI list is short and I think hydrolyzed silk is the most powerful ingredient in the formula, going well with all types of hair. I also love how the spray smells! It’s super easy to use and the application takes a few seconds – just like the absorption of the product. It comes in a 200-ml bottle and has an inviting price!

Okay, now you know the top choice, however, before I came across Nanoil, I used many other products and there are a few that I can recommend. Here they are!
CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray
It used to be my number one, but then I started using Nanoil. I still keep it and use it from time to time, though. It’s 237 ml and has a very good price. CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray is also very easy to use, and, what’s most important, it doesn’t overload my hair, and effectively protects it while curling or flat-ironing. I don’t like using it before creating some hairstyles, but that’s not what heat protectants are made for. CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray slightly smooths the hair, adds shine, and also leaves it feeling softer thanks to added silk. Even though it comes in a bigger bottle than Nanoil, it doesn’t last me that long.
Davines Haircare Melu Hair Shield
If your hair is ruined from daily flat-ironing, then you can try saving it using Davines Haircare Melu Hair Shield. Apart from ensuring protection against high temperatures, it deeply nourishes the hair. It also has a smoothing effect, but it’s very gentle. What I really like about this product is the anti-static effect. The eco-friendly brand put the hair mist in a clear bottle and I like it because I can see how much product is left. I also love the scent which stays on my hair for many hours. Overall, I think it’s a good product but I guess I won’t buy it again unless it’s cut-price.
Kerastase Fluidealiste Keratine Thermique Milk
It isn’t a spray but it works like one so I decided to add it to the list. It’s milk-like and you apply it by rubbing it between the palms and spreading all over the hair. I know it’s not as nice and easy as spritzing the strands, but Kerastase Fluidealiste Keratine Thermique Milk works well. It protects from the heat damage and stops static for many hours. That’s why I like to use it before flat-ironing. I hope Kerastase will turn it into a spray – that would be a real gem! What I don’t like about it is the high price and a smaller size (we need to restock often).
Which heat protectant seems the best choice? Do you know any other terrific product that hasn’t been included in the list? Share its name please, I’d love to try it. <3
