Hands are our showcase – you can see them all the time, when we reach for something, we comb our hair, when we hold a cup of tea … Continuously. Their care should also last … continually. Is this the case?
Do you take care of hand skin properly? As far as I am concerned – it turns out that it is very rare. I have a lot on my conscience, and the hands would tell you a lot of not nice things about their owner 🙂
It’s time to change it. It is worth knowing why hands dry up so fast and how to protect them.
Today, we reach out to them a helping hand: D
We, women, stubbornly take care of our nails, making a fancy manicure … and for the same reason, the health and appearance of the skin of the hands should be very important to us. Meanwhile, hands usually succumb to desiccation and irritation. We often blame the hand soap (the fact is that these drugstore “common” soaps do not turn out good for them), but let’s also remember that we just as often make the skin dry and damaged ourselves. And it is not so hard to dry it – remember that the skin of the hand does not have sebaceous glands, so it does not produce a protective hydro-lipid layer. There are no barriers. There is no protection. In addition, we do so much with our hands every day. Unfortunately, I do not always protect them against detergents. Rubber gloves for washing dishes? … and the disgraceful effect in the form of dried hands immediately appears.
What damages your hands – a black list of care
- dry air from radiators;
- detergents contained in cleaning/washing liquids;
- frost and cold, penetrating air;
- unsuitable cosmetics (do you know that glycerin contained in creams dries the skin?);
- hard water;
- handwashing soaps (most, of course, I’m not talking about traditional soaps);
- lack of skin hydration;
- no UV protection;
- insufficient hydration of the body;
- lack of vitamins;
- smoking cigarettes.
Of course, there are skin diseases, hormonal disorders, etc. – these require medical consultation.
The above list includes the main factors leading to drying of the hand skin. We do not give them a hand – we avoid it like fire 🙂
How to nourish/regenerate/strengthen/moisturize the dry skin of the hand? 🙂
There are several ways, it’s best to try every bit of it
1. A classic – a hand cream
Ok, before you roll your eyes saying that it’s no discovery, let me just tell you something about this obvious method od hand care. First of all, a hand cream must have high quality, must be natural and free of everything that might contribute to drying up the skin. It must moisturize and at the same time protect against weather conditions, for instance, by gently oiling the skin. A good idea is to choose a product with a neutral pH, which at the same time will alleviate any irritation. Such a cream can be applied at night with a thick layer, under cotton gloves especially designed for hand treatment. A good cream will replace the products described as a hand mask for the night – its rich and safe composition perfectly suits this. In other words: you buy one good quality cream and you get two really great cosmetics.
2. A real soap
What does it mean a real soap? The best one is definitely the traditional Aleppo soap, which does not contain drying detergents and is natural, so it does not dry the skin. Natural soaps are often enriched with olive oil or other valuable oils. It is worth trying such a miraculous product – your hand will see a huge difference in how they feel after using such a natural “real” soap.
3. Gloves
In addition to an overnight treatment with cotton gloves, you can buy special disposable gloves, which are soaked with a special liquid exfoliating the skin of hands. They work similarly to the exfoliating foot socks, but of course the skin on the hands does not experience such a strong treatment. Such gloves are ideal for regenerating hand skin after winter.
4. Drugstore / homemade masks
Girls, if you do not have a mask for your hands, and you want to treat them to such a “real” one, then just mix a little cream (preferably oily) with a teaspoon of natural oils and a teaspoon of honey. You do not have to spread it on your hands, because it’s quite a liquid mess and will not work well in this form, You can pour everything into the bowl and dip your hands in such a mixture. Hold your hands for about 15-20 minutes in this “cream bath”. You can also enrich the blend with a bit of lemon juice.
5. Hand scrub
To make the masks and creams absorb better, and get rid of dry skin once and for all, you make your own hand scrub – here I suggest that you just use a little oil and sugar, or bran, or coffee, or peeling which you use for the face. Such an exfoliating scrub is best done before each mask or hand treatment.
Do you know any other ways of regenerating dry hands? What do you think, for example, about paraffin treatment for the hands? Is it worth it? I have not tested it myself, but who knows, maybe one of you will encourage me.
