The most visible proof of time passing is skin aging. The speed of aging of the skin is influenced by factors such as genes, care, and gravity, which make the skin stretch. Its premature aging is promoted by excessive tanning (especially without proper sun protection), inhalation of fumes, smoking cigarettes and a diet low in vegetables and fruits. The most common problems of mature skin are discoloration, signs and excessive dryness. Are there any ways to prevent them? What should makeup for a mature complexion that would camouflage such imperfections look like? Here are my suggestions.
The most common problems of mature skin
Mature skin and discolorations
Sun rays have a direct impact on the formation of discolorations. One of the symptoms of the so-called post-sun aging is brown discolorations that appear in places most exposed to UV rays, ie on the hands, face and neckline. Discolorations, called age spots or old age flowers, are clusters of melanin, the dark pigment of the skin. Once you notice them on your skin, you have to immediately give up sunbathing because their amount will be increasing, and the existing ones will get darker and darker. Age spots should not be confused with discoloration, which arises as a result of tanning and simultaneous treatment with some preparations.
Mature people usually take more medicine and drink herbs. Some of them, especially St John’s wort, may increase skin’s sensitivity to solar radiation. For this reason, on sunny days before leaving the house, make sure to use protective creams with the highest SPF possible. Light scarves and fashionable summer gloves will not be an unnecessary luxury.
Mature skin and marks
Pre-neoplastic lesions, called actinic keratosis, may appear on mature skin. These areas are yellowish-colored, rugged, sometimes slightly convex. They are small – their diameter should not exceed 2-3 cm. These outbreaks may cause a skin cancer, so they should be immediately shown to a dermatologist who will prescribe a topical exfoliating preparation or schedule liquid nitrogen therapy in order to restore the skin’s smoothness. Later, just avoid the sun.
With age, abnormal cell divisions, including skin cells are more dangerous for our body. As a consequence, a tumor may form from these cells, so do not underestimate the slightest changes you see on the skin. It often happens that they initially have the form of a wound with a diameter of 2-3 millimeters, which is covered with a scab. After some time, the scab goes out, and the wound reappears and does not want to heal for a long time. It can last for years. I know that many people are afraid to show these changes to the doctor, while their removal often ends the treatment. That’s why you ought to go to the doctor!
In addition, watch your moles carefully. Which with age, under the influence of tanning, they can turn into melanoma or a dangerous skin cancer. If the mole changes its shape, has jagged edges, bleeds or grows, show it to the doctor. A quick removal of a birthmark can really save your life!
Mature skin and excessive dryness of the skin
One of the first symptoms of skin aging is its dryness. It results from lacking the ability to bind and retain water in the epidermis. As a consequence, the regeneration processes are slower and the biological activity of skin cells decreases as well as the number of collagen and elastin fibers providing elasticity. In addition, mimic wrinkles are more clearly marked, furrows appear, and the skin becomes thinner and rough.
With age, the skin starts resembling a parchment: it is thin and dry and flakes off due to the slow work of the sebaceous glands. For this reason, mature skin needs intensive hydration, which will be provided by nourishing and moisturizing creams as well as vitamin masks. I am sorry to say, but those of you who have had a problem with fragile blood vessels throughout their lives will have an even greater problem once you get older. Cosmetics sealing the walls of blood vessels should help.
Makeup for mature skin
Some women claim that there is no need to apply makeup at a certain age. Others worry that any trace of makeup will make them look even older than they really are. That’s nonsense. Properly applied makeup will hide discolorations and dilated capillaries. Of course, if you overdo with the number of layers of the cosmetics, you will end up looking funny.
Makeup for mature skin should not be completely mattifying, because that could emphasize the signs of fatigue and aging (deep wrinkles, dark under-eye circles, narrower lips, etc.).
Makeup for mature skin – step by step:
- Start off with scheduling an appointment at a beauty salon, where the beautician will apply henna to your brows and lashes (it cannot be too dark!). You might as well darken your eyebrows with a bronze eyeshadow applied with a thin brush. Do not use a pencil if you don’t want to look unnatural.
- Before applying a foundation that will hide all skin imperfections, apply a generous amount of a moisturizing cream and give it time to be completely absorbed.
- Replace your eyeshadows with a bronze-pink blush. Apply it to the outer corner of your upper eyelid and to the apples of your cheeks.
- Right above your upper lash line, apply a gray or bronze eyeliner; you can just draw dots one next to another to enhance the lash line.
- Apply a shimmery lipstick, a tone darker than the natural color of your lips.
- Get outdoors and stun with your amazing looks!
