Good Mascara – rule no 1 – Spiral

A mascara wand MUST be solid. Believe it or not, a big brush doesn’t equal a spotless makeup. I guess big mascara wands are created to make women think ‘if I use such a spiral, my lashes will be soooo long and big’. You couldn’t be more wrong. The brush should be middle-sized. It must be narrowed at the ends to let you coat even the tiniest lashes in the corners of your eyes. Ellipse is the best shape for a mascara wand.

Good Mascara – rule no 2 – Silicone Brush

There was a reason for creating a silicone mascara wand. It is much more precise and hygienic than its ‘hairy’ friends. A silicone brush is easy to wash, neither deforms nor gathers impurities. It is much better at combing, separating and evenly coating the lashes. Hairy wands will never achieve such a precision in makeup.

Good Mascara – rule no 3 – Durability

There is nothing worse than a mascara that flakes, smudges or gets into the eyes irritating the conjunctiva. Sadly, cheap, drugstore mascaras offer poor quality ingredients and less durable formulas. So, it is better to invest in a more expensive mascara rather than keep looking in the mirror to check if you already got panda effect.

Good Mascara – rule no 4 – Care

Apart from painting the lashes, a good mascara should care for them. Only the combination of makeup and conditioning can gift your eyelashes with protection from damage. While shopping for a mascara, check if it includes wax, oils, plant extracts, silk or panthenol. If so, that’s great! It means the mascara doesn’t only deliver makeup but also nourishes the lashes.

Keep away from mascaras including fragrances! They can lead to eye irritation and dry eyelashes.
